Frustrated with the unhealthy options at convenience stores, I developed the idea of Sol Bites March 2010. I wanted an alternative to beef jerky and candy bars for myself and for my kids. I had already played with the idea of starting a blue cheese company, but when a friend suggested I go to a natural foods expo, I went and saw a huge void in healthy snacks. It reflected what I saw on the shelves at the convenience stores. So, then and there I decided to create Two Rivers Foods Co.
I’m a long-time entrepreneur. I’ve started businesses in the high tech and outdoor industry. I love kayaking, mountain biking, and other outdoor sports, and so I found my calling with my first business, Banshee Athletics Inc. The outdoor industry was vibrant at the time, and it captured my attention for years. I took that passion a step further and developed a kayak park in my hometown in 2000. And then I founded the Lyons Outdoor Games. Those were exciting times for me.
I now feel the same way about the health food industry. It’s booming, and people are enthusiastic and motivated for change. It’s such a youthful, fresh market, and there’s so much room for expansion and growth. We’re building a healthy planet one product at a time, and that thrills me. I want to feel good about what I am doing, but I also want a company that makes a positive impact on people and the planet. I can’t fake things. So I had to come up with a real product that appeals to both children and to adults.
